About Mike Balow

Born and raised in Detroit, Michael Balow is a lifelong  Patriot who has dedicated his life to service.  After graduating Notre Dame High School in the top 1% of his class, Michael went on to the U.S. Naval Academy where he graduated  in 1994 and began his career serving our nation,  commissioned an Ensign in the U.S. Navy as a Surface Warfare Officer.

After seven years’ active duty including being deployed overseas to the Middle East,  Mike moved to Plymouth Township and has spent more than 20 years as a dedicated husband, father, community leader and a successful businessman in the real estate industry.

Blessed with 3 daughters, Mike and his wife Deb committed themselves to community service by investing their time and energy into building a strong family network around their children and their educational and sports interests.  From years of serving as a church president to youth football club President and booster and Neighborhood Association President, Mike doesn’t just “dip his toe” into something – he goes “all in.”

Mike currently serves in leadership positions in both state and national youth sports programs and volunteers his time as a U.S. Naval Academy Blue and Gold officer who mentors high school students interested in the U.S. Naval Academy.

Although Mike’s Mom passed away when he was very young from cancer, Mike’s Dad, a Detroit Police Officer Helicopter pilot and former Marine, offered him a front row example of how to serve his country, his community and his family.   Three simple rules.

Always tell the truth.

Compliment wherever you can and hold those accountable when you must.

Excel in whatever you do.

Mike is running for the MSU Board of Trustees to help be a voice of reason and change to what he found to be an incredibly dysfunctional environment at the MSU Leadership level and is looking to EARN your support.
